3. Check iPhone Storage

The error “Unable to Install Update” may occur if you don’t have enough storage available. Your iPhone needs to have enough storage to update because each update has new features which take up storage. It is recommended to have 5GB of free storage when updating the software of your iPhone. In order to check your iPhone storage, follow the steps below.

  • Go to Settings.
  • Tap on General.
  • Tap on Storage.
  • When you are on this page, it will tell you to have much storage you have available. If it is under 5GB, then free up some storage by deleting some photos, files, and apps.

4. Make sure you have a fast network

Having a stable network connection is key when updating your iPhone. A stable connection ensures that your software updates quickly and without a problem occurring. You will be unable to install iOS 17 if your network isn’t fast and stable enough. Follow these steps to check your network connection:

  • Open Settings.
  • Select the Wi-Fi field.
  • On the Wi-Fi field, your device will show you what router you are connected to. To ensure you have a stable connection, check how many Wi-Fi bars are highlighted. If all of them are highlighted, then you have a strong connection.
  • If none or only a couple are highlighted, then your network connection may be unstable. If a message pops up next to your Wi-Fi connection saying “Internet may not be available”, then your connection is also unstable.
  • To solve this, get closer to your Wi-Fi box/router. Restart your router. Or plug your iPhone into the router using a lead. If your connection is still unstable, then there may be a fault at your network provider’s end. You need to change to another Wi-Fi.

5. Make sure your iPhone has enough battery

To update your iPhone’s software your iPhone needs to have at least 50% charge, so the update won’t be interrupted while you’re updating it because if it does have enough battery, then the update will be canceled. So before you update your phone, make sure it has 50% battery and preferably keep it on charge when updating.

6. Delete the Beta profile

A Beta profile is only available to iPhone users that have a valid Apple ID and accept the Apple Beta Software Program Agreement during the sign-up process. It let users try out pre-release software. When the new software is released to every iPhone user, this may cause a problem when installing it. Having the Beta software can sometimes cause your iPhone confusion and stop you from updating your iPhone to the fully released version. That’s why you may be unable to install iOS 17. Follow these steps to delete your Beta profile:

  • Go to Settings.
  • Then tap on General and tap VPN and Device Management.
  • Tap the iOS Beta Software Profile.
  • Tap Remove Profile, then restart your device.
  • Then follow the steps to install the latest iOS software update.

8. Update your iPhone using your computer

Updating your iPhone using your computer can prevent the Error message from coming up. This is because the update is coming from your computer and being transferred over to your iPhone rather than being updated from your iPhone alone. Follow these steps to update your iPhone using your computer:

  • Connect your iPhone to your computer using a USB cable.
  • Open the iTunes app on your PC, and click the iPhone icon near the top left of the iTunes window.
  • Click the Update button.
  • Click Update on the pop-up to install the update.

9. Choose another time to update

If none of these solutions work, then there may just be an overload of people trying to update at the same time. When Apple releases a new version, there will be lots of update requests to Apple’s server. If there are too many at one time, Apple will have to decline some requests which will result in an error message coming up on your iPhone. Simply wait a day or two and try to update your iPhone again.

Hopefully, one of these solutions has helped you update the new iOS 17 software without having to deal with the Error message “Unable to Install Update”. If none of these solutions worked, then you may have to contact Apple to solve the problem.
